Laugh Yourself Happy

If you need a quick pick-me-up, maybe humor can do the trick. Laughter appears to reduce depression, improve mood, and even help people cope with pain and illness. Not a natural-born
comic? No problem. Here are some tips to keep you moving at 60 smiles per hour:

  • Keep a “humor journal” or scrapbook: every day, write down something funny that you heard, saw or did. Re-read your journal when you need a boost.
  • Post funny (but tasteful) quotes or cartoons on your refrigerator, mirror, locker or bulletin board.
  • Record your favorite television comedies and watch them with your family. Listen to recorded comedy routines while doing household chores.
  • Establish a joke exchange with a friend: write down any good jokes you hear and swap them by phone or email.
  • Stuck on an embarrassing mistake you made? Try to find a
humorous side to it, and share it with others.

Laughter is the best medicine, so be sure to get your daily
dose of humor.

Which Bread Is Best?

When you wander down the bread aisle of any grocery store, you have dozens of choices. So how does the health-conscious consumer pick the best bread? These simple guidelines can help.

Choosewholegrain.

Look for bread called “100% whole wheat,” or check the ingredients to see if “wholewheat” or other “whole-grain” flour is the first ingredient (meaning it’s the largest ingredient by weight).Whole grains include oats, brown rice, bulgur, corn and rye. “Wheat bread” and “multigrain bread” are not always whole-grain.

Get your fiber.

The American Dietetic Association recommends 30 to 38 grams a day for men and 21 to 25 grams for women. A slice of whole-wheat bread contains 2 to 5 grams of fiber, while an average slice of white bread has only 0.6 grams. A fiber-rich diet has several health benefits and keeps you feeling full longer.

Avoid breadswith “bad” fats.

Trans fat can contribute to heart disease, so avoid it whenever you can. Look for “trans fat free” on the label or 0 grams of trans fat on the Nutrition Facts panel.

Consider the salt and sugar content.

If you have high blood pressure or diabetes, look for sodium and sugar amounts on the
Nutrition Facts panel. Whole grains are also available in items such as tortillas, pita bread and bagels. Try a few products to find the ones that are both delicious and nutritious.

THE JOY OF SOY

Looking for a high-protein alternative to meat? Consider soy. It’s
cholesterol-free and low in saturated fat. Many soy-based foods are also
high in fiber, B vitamins and antioxidants.

Try some of these:
Edamame are fresh soybeans, a popular Japanese appetizer you can
also enjoy as a side dish or in salads and soups. They’re stocked in
the produce or freezer section of your supermarket.

Soy-fortified cereals pack protein into your breakfast.

Soy milk and frozen fruit can be blended into a delicious smoothie.

Soy nuts, roasted whole soybeans, make a convenient snack.

Firm tofu can be marinated and stir-fried with vegetables.

Silken tofu can be blended and used as an egg replacement in cakes
and brownies.

Soy flour boosts protein content and adds a nutty flavor to breads
and other baked goods.

Soy-based veggie burgers, higher in fiber and lower in saturated fat
than hamburgers, can also be crumbled into recipes calling for
ground beef. Try soy sausage too.

Miso paste makes a flavorful base for soup stock.

Use soy (and a little creativity) to add a protein-powered twist to your meals.

5 Steps to Healthy blood pressure

Have you had your blood pressure checked
lately? Keeping your pressure at 120/80 or
lower reduces your risk of heart disease and
stroke. While medication can effectively
bring elevated numbers under control, there’s
a lot you can do on your own to lower or
prevent high blood pressure (hypertension).

Take the pressure off with these suggestions:
1.Step on the scale. Being overweight
causes a two- to sixfold increased risk of
high blood pressure. Losing just 10 pounds can reduce your pressure by several
points. Maintain a BMI (body mass index) of 18.5 to 24.9; search for “BMI”
at www.americanheart.org to find out your number.

2.Hold the salt. It’s easy to exceed your daily sodium intake, which is
2,300 mg—about a teaspoon of salt. Tips: Cook with herbs, spices, citrus
juices and flavored vinegars; replace salty items with lower-sodium selections.

3.Follow the DASH diet. This eating plan is rich in vegetables, fruits,
grains and low-fat dairy products with small servings of meats, fats and
sweets. For more details, go to www.nhlbi.nih.gov and type in “DASH.”

4.Limit alcohol and tobacco. If you drink, limit alcohol to one to
two servings daily, and avoid all tobacco products.

5.Get a move on. Including physical activity, especially cardio exercise,
in most days can help drop your pressure numbers by several points; you
may see improvement in just a few weeks. Note: Check with your health
care provider before making major exercise changes.

FOOD ALLERGY FACTS

Did you know that eight foods account for 90 percent of food allergies?
These foods are peanuts and tree nuts (walnuts and cashews, for example), fish and shellfish, milk, eggs, wheat and soy. What’s more, the number of reported cases of food allergies has increased in recent years, with peanut allergygetting a lot of attention.

More facts about food allergies:

Fact: Food allergy is an immune response to a food that the body senses
is harmful. The resulting symptoms can affect the respiratory system,
gastrointestinal tract, skin or cardiovascular system.

Fact: Some people are so sensitive that they can react to food particles that
become airborne when food is being cooked or peanut shells are opened.

Fact: In the U.S., food allergy occurs in 6 to 8 percent of children under
age 4, and in less than 4 percent of adults. While it isn’t common, it can be serious.

TIPS ON FUELLING YOUR CAR(S) (Good information)

Here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every litre.

Only buy or fill up your car or bike in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the fuel, when it gets warmer petrol expands,so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your litre is not exactly a litre. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree Rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more fuel you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine. Petroleum storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the petrol and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, some of the trucks that are loaded are temperature compensated so that every litre is actually the exact amount.

If there is a fuel truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy, DO NOT fill up--most likely the petrol/diesel is being stirred up as the fuel is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

ICE - In Case of Emergency

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE."

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference!

Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!

Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest .

ICE will speak for you when you are not able to...

Mobile Usage

Message 1.

which is: 2watts = 33dbi
Please Be Careful

Message 2.
Please use left ear while using cell (mobile), because if you use the right One it will affect brain directly.
This is a true fact from Apollo medical Team. Please forward to all your Well wishers.

CANCEROUS FOODS / PRODUCTS

INSTANT NOODLES

Dear instant noodle lovers, Make sure you break for at least 3 days after one session of instant noodles before you eat your next packet! Please read the info shared to me by a doctor. My family stopped eating instant noodles more than 5 years ago after hearing about the wax coating the noodles - the wax is not just in the Styrofoam containers but it coats the noodles. This is why the instant noodles do not stick to each other when cooking.
If one were to examine the ordinary Chinese yellow noodles in the market, one will notice that, in their uncooked state the noodles are oily. This layer of oil prevents the noodles from sticking together.
Wanton noodles in their uncooked state have been dusted with flour to prevent them sticking together. When the hawker cooks the noodles, notice he cooks them in hot water and then rinses them in cold water before cooking them in hot water again. This process is repeated several times before the noodles are ready to be served. The cooking and rinsing process prevents noodles from sticking together.
The hawker then "lowers the noodles in oil and sauce to prevent the noodles from sticking if they are to be served dry. Cooking instructions for spaghetti require oil or butter to be added in the water when boiling the spaghetti to prevent the pasta from sticking together. Otherwise, one gets a big clump of spaghetti!
There was an SBC (now TCS) actor some years ago, who at a busy time of his career had no time to cook, resorted to eating instant noodles everyday. He got cancer later on. His doctor told him about the wax in instant noodles. The doctor told him that our body will need up to 2 days to clear the wax. There was also an SIA steward who after moving out from his mother's house into his own house, did not cook but ate instant noodles almost every meal. He had cancer, and has since died from it.
Nowadays the instant noodles are referred as " cancer noodles ".

SATAY LOVERS (BARBECUE)

If you all eat Satay, don't ever forget to eat the cucumber, because eating Satay together with carbon after barbequing can cause cancer.
But we have a cure for that... Cucumber should be eaten after we eat the Satay because Satay has carcinogen (a cancer causing element) but cucumber is anti-carcinogenic. So don't forget to eat the cucumber the next time you have Satay's.

PRAWNS (SUGPO) & VIT C

DO NOT eat shrimp / prawn if you have just taken VITAMIN C pills!! This will cause you to DIE in ARSENIC (As) toxication within HOURS!!

PORK AWARENESS

Try this and see whether the pork you bought has worms. There goes with your "Bak Kut Teh" for those who love it. Most men love to eat this so watch out before it's too late. If you pours Coke (yes, the soda) on a slab of pork, wait a little while, you will SEE WORMS crawl out of it. A message from the Health Corporation of Singapore about the bad effects of pork consumption. Pig's bodies contain MANY TOXINS, WORM and LATENT DISEASES.
Although some of these infestations are harboured in other animals, modern veterinarians say that pigs are far MORE PREDISPOSED to these illnesses than other animals. This could be because PIGS like to SCAVENGE and will eat ANY kind of food, INCLUDING dead insects, worms, rotting carcasses, excreta including their own, garbage, and other pigs. INFLUENZA (flu) is one of the MOST famous illnesses which pigs share with humans. This illness is harboured in the LUNGS of pigs during the summer months and tends to affect pigs and human in the cooler months.
Sausage contains bits of pigs' lungs, so those who EAT pork sausage tend to SUFFER MORE during EPIDEMICS of INFLUENZA. Pig meat contains EXCESSIVE quantities of HISTAMINE and IMIDAZOLE compounds, which can lead to ITCHING and INFLAMMATION; GROWTH HORMONE which PROMOTES INFLAMMATION and growth; sulphur containing mesenchymal mucus which leads to SWELLING and deposits of MUCUS in tendons and cartilage, resulting in ATHRITIS, RHEUMATISM, etc.
Sulphur helps cause FIRM human tendons and ligaments to be replaced by the pig's soft mesenchymal tissues, and degeneration of human cartilage.
Eating pork can also lead to GALLSTONES and OBESITY, probably due to its HIGH CHOLESTEROL and SATURATED FAT content. The pig is the MAIN CARRIER of the TAENIE SOLIUM WORM, which is found in its flesh. These tapeworms are found in human intestines with greater frequency in nations where pigs are eaten. This type of tapeworm can pass through the intestines and affect many other organs, and is incurable once it reaches beyond a certain stage. One in six people in the US and Canada has RICHINOSIS from eating trichina worms, which are found in pork.
Many people have NO SYMPTOMS to warm them of this, and when they do, they resemble symptoms of many other illnesses. These worms are NOT noticed during meat inspections.

SHAMPOO

Cancer-causing substance in shampoos. Go home and check your shampoo. Change before it's too late... Check the ingredients listed on your shampoo bottle, and see they have a substance by the name of Sodium Laureth Sulfate, or simply SLS. This substance is found in most shampoos; manufacturers use it because it produces a lot of foam and it is cheap. BUT the fact is, SLS is used to scrub garage floors, and it is very strong!!! It is also proven that it can cause cancer in the long run, and this is no joke. Shampoos that contains SLS: Vo5, Palmolive, Paul Mitchell, L'Oreal, the new Hemp Shampoo from Body Shop etc. contain this substance.
The first ingredient listed (which means it is the single most prevalent ingredient) in Clairol's Herbal Essences is Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Therefore, I called one company, and I told them their product contains a substance that will cause people to have cancer. They said, Yeah we knew about it but there is nothing we can do about it because we need that substance to produce foam. By the way Colgate toothpaste also contains the same substance to produce the "bubbles". They said they are going to send me some information.
Research has shown that in the 1980s, the chance of getting cancer is 1 out of 8000 and now, in the 1990s, the chances of getting cancer is 1 out of 3, which is very serious. Therefore, I hope that you will take this seriously and pass this on to all the people you know, and hopefully, we can stop "giving" ourselves cancer-causing agents.
